Snow flakes!

My last blog entry for the year 2012 and what better theme than snow flakes!
I have always thought of painting snow or winter to be very tricky and I'm glad I gave it a shot. The white color rendition hasn't come out as I thought it would. Will probably give it another try.

I hope I continue (more regularly) in this coming new year. It has been a while since I painted using water colours. Would be a good idea to start the new year with them :)!

Music!

A long due theme of Music!
Wanted to try this 'painting on a black background' for a while and really wanted to try the Pink Floyd iconic prism :). 'Wish you were here' has always been one of my favourite songs and definitely is one of the first things that comes to my mind when I think of music! And what better way to paint music other than with colours...
Many flaws in the painting, the black could've been smoother and so could some other colours, but had to post it nevertheless.

Power lines!

Just a sketch after a really long time.
Thanks for the inspiration http://goo.gl/jWeIk and of course the power electronics textbook lying on my table!

Tribal

Yesterday was truly one of the most productive days in recent times and yes one of the contributing factors was me painting after more than a month! I feel terrible to have not been able to paint, just have to manage my time better I guess..
The long due theme was Tribal. I have tried to give this artwork a 'folk' look with the blend of dark and bright colours, together with a figurine. Couldn't think of a better use of colours to depict the theme. I think my strokes with acrylic are getting smoother with every trial and I'm loving the effect!

Independence!

Its been three weeks since I posted anything and I can see irregularity creeping in more often! Don't want to blame the work load...today I had to make something and post and thanks to Mr. Federer and his match, I decided to sit in the living room in front of the television without my paints, table and chair resulting in a crayon art.
The theme was independence since it was meant to be for the week in which India celebrated its 65th independence day! The backdrop is inspired by one of Karthick's photographs http://goo.gl/6hr68. I guess freedom and birds go hand in hand and thats how I decided to make this one that best depicts independence and completed it with the Indian flag!

Aggression!

Last week's theme was Aggression! Yes I did miss a couple of weeks and hopefully can compensate this week by making another one soon.
Many things came to my mind with the word aggression. One of them was volcanoes, nature's form of aggression! This post is an attempt to bring out the aggression in form of colours! I have tried to paint fire using acrylics. My second serious attempt at acrylic painting and I realized my strokes aren't smooth yet. Its probably going to be a while for me to get used to acrylics. Its fun nevertheless :)!

Peacock

I delayed my this week's 'theme art' by a day and wanted to compensate by posting two paintings this week. This ones just a recreation of http://goo.gl/zmu88. I think the day I told HK that I was going to start updating my blog regularly with paintings if not writings, she sent me this and said she wants me to make one for her.

Though its a little too late, I finally made it and gave it to her :)! The colours definitely look brighter in the original one, but quite happy with this one too.

Happiness!

This week's theme was 'happiness'. It was my turn to come up with a theme and happiness was something HK had suggested a couple of weeks back, used it this time!
I started with things that come to my mind with the word happiness...balloons, then flowers, leaves, a heart hidden somewhere and finally ended up with just a super medley of colours!!! And yes colours do make me happy :D! This is my second attempt at acrylics and the brush strokes are still a little shaky. Nevertheless posting it since it also makes me happy that this is my first ever shot at a canvas!

Motion!

This week's theme was motion. What best would describe motion in an artistic way other than dance movements! The first thing that came to my mind was a sine wave :D... sine wave took form of a wave, then circular motion and finally a dance move.

I'm yet to get hold of a bright red colour and always end up with something having a crimson shade. And didn't want to use many colours for this too, hence the sort of patchy work!I did think of a couple of other things related to motion...might get down to try those too some day :)!

Landscape, with acrylics!

This week's theme was 'Landscape'! I have been thinking of deviating from water colours for a while now, just to try out something new and eventually learn to use oil paints. And my friends Sri and Viji as if read my mind!! Just before their post-wedding party they gifted me a brand new set of acrylic paints and brushes!
Obviously now I had to make this week's painting with my new colours. Except that I had never before used acrylics and had almost zero knowledge about anything to do with them. This was an experiment and though it looks like a five year old's painting, I'm glad I made a start! Also made me realize how different acrylic painting is from water colours. I guess I have to perfect the technique slowly by trying out new things as and when I paint.
This landscape here is inspired by the art by Leonid Afremov, http://goo.gl/ZfRVa

3D magic!

I love coincidences!! This week's theme was decided to be 3D. And what are the odds that HK shares an interesting piece of art just two days before I actually sat down to paint.

This one is not an original idea, it is courtesy http://goo.gl/QvjVE. I loved it when I saw it and couldn't resist trying it out myself. Isn't as 3D as I imagined it to be but sure becomes my post for this week :)!

Triangles!

Post for this week, with the theme 'Triangles'.

This time I wanted to stick to just three colours, blue, green and yellow, colours that best describe the summer :)! With an additional tinge of white of course. I guess brush work is not the best and somewhere my lack of patience is exposed too :P.

Nevertheless another fun night making this!

Crimson!

A good friend and I decided to paint something every week starting 18th June 2012, with a theme decided by either of us. This one is the first in that series. The theme 'Red' was suggested by my friend this week. Only when I got to it did I realize that I was going to have to use crimson instead because I didn't have the colour red in my collection! The output was strictly OK but it sure was fun doing it since I started with absolutely no plan and actually ended up with something :)..thanks Rohan!

Pastels!

This one on the left just shows what happens when you are really out of touch! This was done after almost an year and I feel terrible about it...

The one on the right is recent, done with crayons and a result of a bad and tiring day. Just wanted to scribble with colours and thats exactly what I did! This was a painting (don't know the exact source) shared by one of my friends Harpreet and she wanted me to paint this for her. Haven't gotten to do that yet but I should probably show this to her in the meantime :P.

Landscapes

These are again inspired by pictures and drawings off the web.
The one on the left was made in March 2010, again after a gap of almost five months and the output very well shows it!!
The one on the right was a painting I made for my mom for her birthday in 2010. I took a picture and sent it to her through email. Last year when we met I gave her the actual painting on 1st September 2011 which happened to be her 60th birthday :)!

Pictures on paper!

Golden gate bridge!

These were made in 2009.

The one on the left is a photograph taken by one of my photographer friends Karthick. Hasn't come out like his picture really but gave me a new idea of water to paint!

The one on the right is again a photograph of the Golden gate bridge, inspired by http://goo.gl/11yt8. I visited San Francisco that summer and the bridge was truly one of the most magnificent architectures I had ever seen before! Trying to put it on paper was fun...

Abstract - Shades and lines!

My first few attempts at abstract art.
The one on the left was my very first trial at something from top of my head. Exposes a lot of shabbiness in my painting but was a new experience indeed! It still loyally remains the screensaver on my very first laptop :).

The one on the right is one of the few that have no background or story or reference to it. I have always been fascinated by shapes, line and of course colours. Just a mixture of all of it :)!

Notice how my choice of colours and the fact that I use almost every colour possible hasn't changed all these years :P.

A farewell gift!

This was made back in 2008 just before I left for Canada! It was a gift for my colleagues and friends who were a big part of my daily life then and don't cease to be a part of my life even now. Miss those days...

Colours!

It's been a while since I wrote and updated my blog. Patience was always something that didn't come easily to me and I guess I am not patient enough to write! Since I am trying to now paint/draw/sketch regularly, I guess updating my blog with these would at least keep it alive :)! And yes I will be motivated to keep painting.

This was done almost after a six month's gap. And turned out to be one of my favourites so far! It's a photograph taken off the web, just reproduced. I should be careful to preserve the original work henceforth to be able to acknowledge it.
